Chain mail collaborations on cassette were an important way of networking in the 80's/90's between like-minded artists, tapes sent back and forth via post from one sound artist to another. Upon receipt of the master tape the recipient would transform it by adding their own layer then sending it on to the next person in the "chain". The finished version of this particular collab never materialized and even though this layer of the process was documented, the final version was likely quite different.
