about

Live improvisations recorded at the PBK studio in 1989/90.

Dirk Serries (Vidna Obmana) traveled from Belgium to the U.S. in 1989 and '90. Both times he stayed with Phillip B. Klingler (PBK) and worked in Klingler's recording studio in San Bernardino, California. In between working on source material for Serries' solo albums, the two found time to collaborate. The music contained on this album was recorded live in the studio with both artists improvising in real-time. The tracks were recorded directly to cassette and some contain significant technical flaws, tape saturation overload and hiss, clicks/pops, etc. Because of these flaws this audio remained unreleased until now. When Serries and Klingler revisited these recordings in 2016, they decided the material should be released after all, even with the perceptible imperfections. The sound is distinctly different from each artist's solo work of that time, with dramatic tension and release, vivid filmic aspects, dynamic crescendos, sepulchral voices whispering... all making these spontaneous creations unique in each artist's discography.
